What a dream! We were SO lucky to have the opportunity to collaborate with West Elm...and so soon after launching the habitat collective! We know you're probably wondering how all of this came about and, well, we're very happy to share that it was all thanks to Instagram! We tagged our local store, West Elm Midtown, into a photo of a bedroom we'd styled (it featured their Mid-Century Nightstand) and that was it! They got in touch, asked to repost the pic, we got chatting and they suggested a collaboration!
So together we came up with the idea of a fun, holiday themed social media takeover, "A few of our favorite things..." (we've since learnt that an alarming number of our male acquaintances have never even seen "The Sound of Music".... so here's a shoutout to those boys and their deprived childhoods). Anyway, so we actually got to choose a few (or a lot) of our favorite West Elm products to use in a series of styled vignettes, which we would later photograph for Instagram. Life complete.
Now, we don't know if you know but from "rain drops on roses" right through to "silver white winters that melt into spring", Maria sings about no less than 13 of her favorite things, which for us, created the opportunity for 13 different photo shoots! We mixed things up a bit and shot some of the vignettes out on location and we also spent a morning shooting in the store before it opened! They had a gorgeous paper cone art installation on one of their walls, and we snatched up the chance to style a cool office vignette in front of it!
Without a doubt, our favorite photoshoot was based around the lyrics, "Whiskers on kittens". Yeah, you guessed it, it involved actual kittens. We thought it would be the perfect opportunity to get a local animal shelter involved, since West Elm are huge advocates of the ASPCA and we wanted to help some kittens find their forever homes just in time for Christmas. Our dream came true and we had the pleasure of working with Miami-Dade Animal Services who provided us with four tiny, sweet, totally adorable models. And we are SO incredibly happy to announce that all four kittens were adopted in time for Christmas! We'd also like to take a moment to mention the leather sling chair we used in this shoot. B-e-a-u-tiful! We'll take one for every room of the house, please!
Just when we thought things couldn't get any better, we got another amazing surprise when West Elm's official Instagram page reposted our "warm woolen mittens" photo, launching HabCo dog, Willy, into insta-fame super stardom receiving nearly 8,000 likes! How could they resist? Just look at that face!
It was an incredibly fun week, and we'd like to say a huge thank you to both West Elm Midtown & Miami-Dade Animal Services. Check out our complete takeover in our gallery, on our insta (@thehabitatcollective) or head over to @westelmmidtown.
